US Trade with Bangladesh

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, US trade with Bangladesh totaled $1,818.5 million, up 4.66% ($80.9 million) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

US exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $394.5 million, up 49.53% ($130.7 million) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

US imports from Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $1,424.1 million, down 3.38% ($49.8 million) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

US trade deficit with Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $1,029.6 million, a 14.91% decrease ($180.4 million) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Bangladesh was the US 52nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1843% of US total trade (down from 0.1877% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Bangladesh was the US 66th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 76th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1025% of US total exports (up from 0.0726% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Bangladesh was the US 43rd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 39th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2366% of US total imports (down from 0.2623% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The major share of US exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

The largest declines in US exports to Bangladesh in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $17.5 million;
  • Zinc and articles thereof (HS code 79) - a decrease of $7.3 million.
