US Trade with Brazil

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, US trade with Brazil totaled $16.7 billion, up 21.90% ($3.0 billion) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

US exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $9.1 billion, up 23.98% ($1.8 billion) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

US imports from Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $7.6 billion, up 19.51% ($1.2 billion) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

US trade surplus with Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $1.4 billion, a 54.92% increase ($0.5 billion) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Brazil was the US 12th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 16th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.6960% of US total trade (up from 1.4829% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Brazil was the US 10th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 12th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 2.3609% of US total exports (up from 2.0148% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Brazil was the US 17th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.2710% of US total imports (up from 1.1388% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The major share of US exports to Brazil in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 42.56% of US total exports to Brazil (47.33% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 24.11% of US total exports to Brazil (15.09% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
