US Trade with Kuwait

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, US trade with Kuwait totaled $2.1 billion, up 20.14% ($0.3 billion) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

US exports to Kuwait in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $1.3 billion, up 58.61% ($0.5 billion) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

US imports from Kuwait in the 3rd quarter of 2017 were $0.8 billion, down 12.26% ($0.1 billion) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

US trade balance with Kuwait went from a deficit of $0.1 billion in the 3rd quarter of 2016, to a surplus of $0.4 billion in the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Kuwait was the US 51st largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2107% of US total trade (down from 0.2110% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Kuwait was the US 42nd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (up from 48th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3291% of US total exports (up from 0.2283% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Kuwait was the US 60th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 54th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1361% of US total imports (down from 0.1984% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The major share of US exports to Kuwait in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Commodities not specified according to kind (HS code 99) - an increase of $9.2 million;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $8.3 million;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $8.1 million;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $3.9 million.

The largest declines in US exports to Kuwait in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $106.4 million;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - a decrease of $11.7 million;
