US Trade with Russia

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, US trade with Russia totaled $6.4 billion, up 18.98% ($1.0 billion) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

US exports to Russia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $1.9 billion, up 44.50% ($0.6 billion) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

US imports from Russia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $4.5 billion, up 10.50% ($0.4 billion) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

US trade deficit with Russia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $2.5 billion, a 6.39% decrease ($0.2 billion) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia was the US 28th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 30th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.6475% of US total trade (up from 0.5800% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia was the US 33rd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 39th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.5026% of US total exports (up from 0.3680% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia was the US 22nd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 24th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.7400% of US total imports (up from 0.7171% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The major share of US exports to Russia in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 13.71% of US total exports to Russia (16.66% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);

  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $13.2 million;
  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - an increase of $9.9 million;
