US Trade with Saudi Arabia

In the first half of 2017, US trade with Saudi Arabia totaled $20.0 billion, up 19.03% ($3.2 billion) from the first half of 2016.

US exports to Saudi Arabia in the first half of 2017 were $8.1 billion, down 2.58% ($0.2 billion) from the first half of 2016.

US imports from Saudi Arabia in the first half of 2017 totaled $12.0 billion, up 40.03% ($3.4 billion) from the first half of 2016.

US trade deficit with Saudi Arabia in the first half of 2017 was $3.9 billion, a 1,500.76% increase ($3.6 billion) over the first half of 2016.

Saudi Arabia was the US 22nd largest trading partner in the first half of 2017 (up from 23rd in the first half of 2016), accounting for 1.0413% of US total trade (up from 0.9350% in the first half of 2016).

Saudi Arabia was the US 20th largest export market in the first half of 2017 (down from 19th in the first half of 2016), accounting for 1.0675% of US total exports (down from 1.1668% in the first half of 2016).

Saudi Arabia was the US 18th largest supplier in the first half of 2017 (up from 22nd in the first half of 2016), accounting for 1.0243% of US total imports (up from 0.7837% in the first half of 2016).

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 70.43% of US total exports to Saudi Arabia (72.50% in the first half of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 10.89% of US total exports to Saudi Arabia (7.80% in the first half of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.80% of US total exports to Saudi Arabia (8.13% in the first half of 2016);

The largest declines in US exports to Saudi Arabia in the first half of 2017 over the first half of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
