US Trade with Taiwan

In 2015, US trade with Taiwan was $68.2 billion, down 0.73% ($0.5 billion) from 2014.

US exports to Taiwan in 2015 were $25.9 billion, down 2.78% ($0.7 billion) from 2014.

US imports from Taiwan in 2015 totaled $42.3 billion, up 0.57% ($0.2 billion) from 2014.

US trade deficit with Taiwan in 2015 was $16.3 billion, a 6.38% increase ($1.0 billion) over 2014.

Taiwan was the US 9th largest trading partner in 2015 (up from 10th in 2014), accounting for 1.79% of US total trade (up from 1.70% in 2014).

Taiwan was the US 14th largest export market in 2015 (just as in 2014), accounting for 1.72% of US total exports (up from 1.65% in 2014).

Taiwan was the US 11th largest supplier in 2015 (up from 12th in 2014), accounting for 1.83% of US total imports (up from 1.74% in 2014).

The major share of US exports to Taiwan in 2015 (and in 2014) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 56.06% of US total exports to Taiwan (51.55% in 2014);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 14.52% of US total exports to Taiwan (17.31% in 2014);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 11.71% of US total exports to Taiwan (12.30% in 2014);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.82% of US total exports to Taiwan (5.73% in 2014);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.64% of US total exports to Taiwan (1.91% in 2014);
