US Trade with Uganda

In the 1st quarter of 2017, US trade with Uganda totaled $34.9 million, up 6.77% ($2.2 million) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

US exports to Uganda in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $16.2 million, up 5.35% ($0.8 million) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

US imports from Uganda in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $18.7 million, up 8.04% ($1.4 million) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

US trade deficit with Uganda in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $2.4 million, a 30.38% increase ($0.6 million) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Uganda was the US 149th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 150th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0037% of US total trade (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Uganda was the US 151st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 149th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0044% of US total exports (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Uganda was the US 127th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 124th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0033% of US total imports (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016).

US Exports to Uganda

The major share of US exports to Uganda in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

The largest declines in US exports to Uganda in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $1.2 million;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $0.5 million;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $0.4 million;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $0.4 million;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $0.3 million;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $0.2 million;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $0.2 million;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $0.1 million;
  • Copper and articles thereof (HS code 74) - a decrease of $0.1 million;
