US Trade with India

In 2013, US trade with India totaled $65.0 billion, up 1.59% ($1.0 billion) from 2012.

US exports to India in 2013 were $21.8 billion, down 1.33% ($0.3 billion) from 2012.

US imports from India in 2013 totaled $43.2 billion, up 3.13% ($1.3 billion) from 2012.

US trade deficit with India in 2013 was $21.4 billion, a 8.12% increase ($1.6 billion) over 2012.

India was the US 11th largest trading partner in 2013 (up from 12th in 2012), accounting for 1.67% of US total trade (up from 1.65% in 2012).

India was the US 18th largest export market in 2013 (just as in 2012), accounting for 1.38% of US total exports (down from 1.43% in 2012).

India was the US 10th largest supplier in 2013 (just as in 2012), accounting for 1.86% of US total imports (up from 1.79% in 2012).

The major share of US exports to India in 2013 (and in 2012) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 36.75% of US total exports to India (31.72% in 2012);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 26.43% of US total exports to India (26.40% in 2012);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.73% of US total exports to India (17.34% in 2012);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 5.99% of US total exports to India (7.86% in 2012);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.90% of US total exports to India (5.54% in 2012);
