US Trade with Uganda

In the 4th quarter of 2017, US trade with Uganda totaled $79.0 million, up 159.13% ($48.5 million) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

US exports to Uganda in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $58.5 million, up 229.59% ($40.8 million) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

US imports from Uganda in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $20.4 million, up 60.75% ($7.7 million) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

US trade surplus with Uganda in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $38.1 million, a 655.69% increase ($33.1 million) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Uganda was the US 133rd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 157th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0076% of US total trade (up from 0.0032% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Uganda was the US 120th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 151st in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0144% of US total exports (up from 0.0047% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Uganda was the US 130th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (up from 136th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0032% of US total imports (up from 0.0022% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1.5 million;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $0.9 million;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - an increase of $0.9 million;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $0.8 million;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $0.6 million;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $0.2 million.

The largest declines in US exports to Uganda in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Commodities not specified according to kind (HS code 99) - a decrease of $1.0 million;
  • Other made up textile articles; sets; worn clothing and worn textile articles; rags (HS code 63) - a decrease of $0.4 million;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $0.3 million.
